"Ignite and Light" Rally Day detailsdetails

Neighborhood families are encouraged to ignite their fire for learning about faith and God at "Rally Day".

Rally Day 2008, called "Ignite and Light", is an interactive demonstration of St. Andrew's new Christian Education program for children, youth and adults. Participants will have the chance to experience singing, movement, drama and to learn about the curriculum for 2008-2009. Children's Christian Education classes are available for preschool children, elementary children (1st-6th grade) and youth (7th-12th grade).

St. Andrew's will also begin a new adult education class, predominately taught by their new pastor Rob Leischner. Topics throughout this school year will explore the differences and similarities between Presbyterians and other denominations. In addition, discussions will be held regarding what it means to be Christian in a I'd-rather-do-anything-else-on-Sunday-morning culture.

Rally Day activities include continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m., demonstration and tour of classrooms at 9:45 a.m. A family friendly worship service will follow at 10:45 a.m.

During worship on September 7, 2008, St. Andrew's also will welcome back cellist Francesco Mastromatteo as Assistant Music Director. Mr. Mastromatteo, a native of Foggia, Italy, is enrolled in the Artist Certificate program at Southern Methodist University and performs with local symphonies.

5th Annual Lakewood Summer Arts Faire detailsdetails

The 5th Annual Lakewood Summer Arts Faire is September 6 & 7, 2008 at Lakewood United Methodist Church. The show runs 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and 11:30am to 5:30pm on Sunday.

This fine art show beats the heat or inclement weather as all 38 artists are indoors. But we're still hoping for great weather as we will once again have the perfoming artist stage in the garden area, featuring 5 musical acts and Muscle Memory Dance Theatre. Ten-piece band "Don't Tell Mama" headlines Saturday, performing from 4:30 to 6:00pm.

This year's visual artists include local favorites Marty Ruiz and 2007 Best of Show winner David Broussard, as well as watercolor artist Jim Koukl from Tyler, and fine woven works by fiber artist Gloria Haefner-Gatti of Double Oak. Of the 38 artists, 20 are new to the show.

This year we have added a special evening event. The Art, Wine & Jazz Gala will be Saturday, September 6th from 7:00pm to 11:30pm and features an appetizer buffet, beer and fine wine, live jazz and a live art auction. All that and free parking at Creative Events of Dallas for only $50 per ticket. Tickets and info can be found at our website.

Of course we'll have our old friends from Angelo's Italian Grill and Paciugo Gelato providing lunch and treats. For more information about the Arts Faire and the Art, Wine & Jazz Gala please see our website.

Lakewood Summer Arts Faire Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. All proceeds benefit area charities. Beneficiaries of this year's show include The Wilkinson Center, Methodist Children's Home, Lakewood Firehouse After School Program and The Bethlehem Center. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
