Lakewood Library Friends 

The Lakewood Library Friends (LLF) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization with an open membership of library advocates from the Lakewood and East Dallas communities. The mission of the LLF is to support the Lakewood Branch of the Dallas Public Library with volunteer time, to raise supporting funds to enhance municipal annual budget levels, and to promote the profile of the Lakewood Library within the community with programs and events.

The Lakewood Library Friends is supported financially by membership dues and by fund-raising led by the efforts of an Auxiliary Board.

Funds contributed to The Lakewood Library Friends by members and local foundations are annually spent for the following supplies and activities that benefit the Lakewood Library and our community:•    Library Book Labels for all New Holdings• Annual Subscription to "Book Page" Periodical

• Children's Activity Supplies
• Children's Summer Reading Program Entertainment
• Three Free Afternoon Book Review Programs
• Evening Special Events
• Annual Lakewood Art Show
• Annual LibraryFest Activities

In addition to these on-going activities and expenses, the contributions received have enabled the Lakewood Library Friends to supply the Lakewood Library during 2007-08 with numerous items, among which include the following:

• Library CD Floor Display Case with roll-out shelves
• Sound System Equipment for Children's Programs
• Repainting of all Library Interior Walls
• Children's Area Large "Ladybug" Book Display Fixture
• Children's Classic Books Replacements
• Bill Wood Memorial Grandparent's Reading Chair
• Twelve new Library Computer Desks
• Twenty-Four Oak Library Chairs
• New Office Furniture for the Staff Room

The Lakewood Library Friends has contributed more than $45,000 to the Lakewood Library for the above programs, and for many other items not listed, during the past five years (2003-08).
