C.C. Young celebrates Veteran's Day: the flag was raised by veterans representing residential living, assisted living, and the health care center.
C.C. Young retirement center is home to multiple residents who served in the U.S. military or awaited the return of loved ones deployed overseas during World War II, the Korean War, and other military operations.
Residents, joined by students from St. John's Episcopal School, commemorated Veterans Day Nov. 11 with a special program representing all generations involved in U.S. Armed Forces during peacetime and conflicts, including the war on terrorism.
Yellow ribbons and flags lined the drive up to The Point, Center for Arts and Education to display the enthusiasm for the expanded emphasis on Veterans Day this year at C.C. Young.
The day started on the campus with reveille at 6 a.m., and a "troop-like" breakfast of chipped beef on toast with gravy.
"We invited 20 different community veterans groups to send representatives to this year's event," said Kent Shields, a veteran himself, Lt. Col, U.S. Air Force, Ret., and vice president for operations at C.C. Young.
Many residents, friends, and community members who take classes or attend programs at The Point have stopped to read and admire the veterans exhibit on the gallery wall.
