Wilshire Heights Runs Contrary to General Elections

Voters in Dallas County mirrored the national returns from Tuesday's election, although Texas remains a decidedly red state. Closer to home, the results varied from precinct to precinct, neighborhood to neighborhood.

Among registered voters countywide, 424,468 cast their ballots for Barack Obama, 309,477 pulled the John McCain lever, and 4,351 people went Libertarian with the Bob Barr-Wayne Root ticket.

Precinct 1231, which overlaps Lakewood Heights to the south went a different direction. Voters there gave John McCain the nod with 651 votes to 514 for Obama and six for Libertarian Barr.

The race for U.S. senator from Texas followed statewide results. Republican John Cornyn topped challengers Richard Noriega, a Democrat, and Yvonne Schick, a Libertarian, in the race for precinct 1231, which went to Cornyn, who collected 715 votes compared with 418 for Noriega and 20 for Schick.

Republican Pete Sessions carried precinct 1231 in the race for U.S. Congressional District 32 with 732 votes to the 395 collected for Democrat Eric Roberson and 17 cast for Libertarian Alex Bischoff.
