Home Invasion, Assault Hits Neighborhood

Multiple crime watch coordinators in the community alerted residents in their respective neighborhood about a recent home invasion and sexual assault that occurred about 4:45 a.m. Oct. 24.

According the Dallas Police Department Central Patrol web site, a man entered the Penrose Ave home through a window, and "armed with a sharp instrument, entered the victim's bedroom and assualted the victim."

From the Central Patrol web site:

"The suspect is described as a black male, 30's to early 40's, 5'09" to 5'10", 190-220 pounds, with a dark complexion, no facial hair. The suspect was reported to speak broken English, with an accent, possibly Indian.

"The suspect was last seen wearing a dark ski cap, possibly black, which covered his hair. He also wore a dark zip-up jacket, dark jeans, and dark boots."

The Police Web site goes on to suggest ways in which residents can take steps to protect themselves:

"Residents should always ensure that all door and windows are locked, and use outdoor lighting around their residences. Maintain shrubbery so that site-lines from the street are clear, and keep all ladders and other items that can be used to allow access to windows and upper floors inside. Please report all suspicious activity to 911, and include as many details, specifically what makes activity seem suspicious, and detailed suspect descriptions, when calling 911."End of story

Possibly an Indian accent? Yeah, right. What are the statistical odds that this would be an Indian man? I can think of at least ten different accents that would be more likely. If this guy is caught and he turns out to be from India I'll gladly eat crow.

Our thanks to Lower Greenville resident Joanne Rhone, who called to notify us of inaccuracies in our original story. In particular, the police now report that the woman was assaulted; it was not an "attempted assault" as was previoiusly reported. The story has been updated to reflect the current police report. We will provide additional information when and if it is discovered.
