Conservancy to Fund Security Cameras

Leaving a parked car in a White Rock Lake lot might be a bit safer in the coming months. The White Rock Lake Conservancy, in what represents its first major outward action on behalf of the lake, plans to install security cameras to watch over four parking lots around the lake.

The panel plans for six cameras to record actions at the lots serving T&P Hill, the Bath House Cultural Center, Winfrey Point, and the "runners lot" on West Lawther Drive at Mockingbird Lane, according to a press release. These lots account for the greatest number of car break-ins at the lake.

The six cameras are estimated to cost about $95,000. To date, the Conservancy has raised $21,500 in private donations, headed by $10,000 from Richardson Bike Mart and $1,500 from the Peninsula Neighborhood Association, according to the release.
