Woodrow quarterback Jackson Crowley on a keeper looks for running room and a first down in the homecoming game.
There is nothing like Friday night football in Texas, particularly when it plays out perfectly for the Woodrow Wilson High School football Wildcats at Franklin Field.
Not only was it the school's 80th homecoming, but the Wildcats also took home a much needed victory over the Hillcrest High School Panthers.
Woodrow came to play and the fans were treated to a good football game. Most notable was how the defense stepped up and harassed the offensive starters of Hillcrest with good pressure on the quarterback and good tackling.
Woodrow also changed their offensive tactics. They threw the ball sparingly with Chad Price in the quarterback slot. He handed the ball off or made things happen on a keeper. Good blocking was evident throughout the game with holes opened on both sides of the line of scrimmage for ball carriers to find open areas to run.
The second half kept the fans in their seats as the teams matched touchdowns — including two punt returns for touchdowns by Price — until the last moments of the game when the Wildcats defense prevailed and stopped a deep Hillcrest pass with just seconds left to play.
The record books will reflect a 28-25 Wildcat victory.
