Commission Moves to Protect Marcus Home

On Monday, the city of Dallas Landmark Commission voted to initiate the designation process for the historic Stanley Marcus house, located at 10 Nonesuch Road in Lakewood.

Only one landmark commissioner, Don Plunk, voted against the measure. The commission's action also approved seven of 10 designation criteria for the property.

Plunk asked the current homeowner, Mark Lovvorn, chairman of Providence Bank of Texas, if he had his "druthers" would he tear down the house. Lovvorn responded, "I'd rather it not be designated, but [our] intent is to be cooperative."

Though Lovvorn may appeal the commission's decision, he made clear he would not.

"I'm aware of that, and we're opting not to appeal it," Lovvorn told the commission.

The initiation process paves the way for city historic designation of the 70-year-old home, and prevents the Lovvorns from demolishing the property during that time. The commission has two years to complete the process.
