Designing to Sell

The best advice Karen Eubank has for homeowners who place their properties on the market is, "You live in a house one way and sell it in another."

Eubank, who lives in Hollywood Heights, runs a business of staging, also known as styling, houses so they show at their fullest selling potential. This involves everything from moving objects already in the home, to advising on colors inside and out, to getting hardwood floors refurbished.

"Most homeowners are too close to their homes to make decisions. People are afraid to go with their gut. They want someone to come in and say their instincts are right," Eubank said.

A typical job for Eubank involves first walk through the home taking note of everything that a potential buyer would inspect. She then writes a report for the homeowners outlining all her suggestions.

Now it is up to the sellers to do their homework; prioritize Eubank's list, and set a budget. After that Eubank comes back and makes it all happen.

"I feel like my clients' therapist, pal, interior designer, you name it. Styling is not about me telling you all your stuff is icky. I'm here to facilitate you to next stage of your life," she said.
