Ruth Hardesty and Princess meet at Starbucks.

Dog Interrupts Coffee Break

Jim Clutts sat in the Lakewood Shopping Center Starbucks conducting a business meeting. Traci Orr sipped coffee while reading. Princess ran along the sidewalk and out into the street.

Princess, a wayward pit bull terrier mix, had escaped from her home just off Worth Street. Somehow, she made it to the Starbucks front door, were Clutts spotted her.

He corralled the dog, keeping her from running out into traffic on Gaston Avenue or La Vista Drive, and brought her into the coffee shop. Orr noticed Princess' ID tags and called the dog's human, Ruth Hardesty, who works at The Wilkinson Center.

Orr placed Princess in her car, set up the sun screens in her windshield, and turned on the air conditioning to make sure Princess didn't overheat while waiting for her human.

Hardesty arrived about 15 minutes later, thanks and welcomes were exchanged, and Princess had a joyful reunion with her human.

The moral of this story, kids: make sure dogs and cats wear proper and up-to-date ID tags before going out, whether the going out is on purpose or accidental. No telling where Princess might have ended up without that tag. End of story
