Here and Now: Lakewood's Blog
Celebrate red, white, blue with black white read

We were a little late to this 40-something-year-old neighborhood tradition. Last year marked Black White Read LLC's first official participation in the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade. We were founded a month after the 2006 event, so we missed that one, and kept a pretty low-profile presence at last year's party, but that's about to change a little.

Black White Read, publishers of Lakewood-Now.net, LakewoodHeights-Now.net, and WilshireHeights-Now.net, invites all our friends and neighbors out to Tokalon Park after this year's parade for a little throw-down under a tent.

We'll have a band — can't tell you which one right now, it's a surprise … mostly to us — some giveaway goodies, ya know, like business cards; probably some food; free handshakes; and, maybe, just maybe, the parade organizers will roll one of the kegs over to the tent so we don't have to walk too far to get a beer.

So, how can a little startup fund this type of extravaganza? We found some extra change between the cushions of the office couch.

No need to RSVP. Your name is already on the list.End of story

If you need a band, check out Pit Pops (www.pitpops.com). They're awesome and very family-friendly!

The PitPops are playing tomorrow at 11 am at the Dallas City Arts Festival downtown. Also another good band, Southern Drive, is tonight at 7 pm.

Oh, and Southern Drive is another LH band, but they are the age of the PitPops kids. And they recently released a new CD.

How about a real Wildcat band from Lakewood, such as 8 Arms to Hold You?
